He was the son of James Bullimore an agricultural labourer, born 1859 in Exton, Rutland and his wife Maria, born 1862 in Whitwell, Rutland. William was born in 1892 in Exton, Rutland, his siblings were, Thomas, born 1886 in Greetham, Rutland, Edith, born 1891, Frederick, born 1892, Harry, born 1896, Annie, born 1897, John, born 1898 and Emily, born 1900, the latter six siblings were all born in Exton, Rutland, in March 1901 the family home was at Farmyard End, Exton, Rutland. He embarked for France in February 1915. At about midnight on the 1st May 1917 he was part of a carrying party, and was getting ammunition ready for taking up to a forward dump, when a shell burst in the middle of the party, eight being killed and several wounded. His death was instantaneous and he was buried the next morning, his body lying about one and a quarter miles north of Combles, France. His officer writes:- “He will be missed by many of his comrades. He died a soldier’s death, in the service of his King and Country.” The War Diary for today records. BOIRY BECQUERELLE. Battalion supplied parties consisting of:- (I) 4 officers and 100 other ranks for work on Brigade Dumps at N.36.c.5.3 and N.36.b.5.4. (II) 1 officer and 20 men for work under Divisional Bombing Officer. Casualties other ranks 4 killed, 1 missing and 4 wounded.
