Albert was the son of Owen and Annie Benson, of 54 Gordon Road, Sneinton, Nottingham. At the time of his death, he was registered as living with relatives in Bardon Hill.

He enlisted with the Army in Coalville and served with the 7th Bn Leicestershire Regiment. The Coalville Times reported that he had been declared killed in action, after having been reported missing. It was presumed that he died of wounds on the 19th September, 1918. He was 22 years old.

LOCAL MEN WHO HAVE FALLEN

The casualty lists published yesterday contained the name of Private R. Benson, of Bardon Hill, previously reported missing, now reported killed. He was in the Northumberland Fusiliers.
