The Illustrated Leicester Chronicle 21/08/1943 reported that:

The Minister of War Transport announces the death of Frank Ernest Burtenshaw, 2nd radio officer. The Cottage, Waltham Lodge, Freeby, Melton Mowbray, a member of the merchant navy, from enemy action or other causes arising out of the war.
