The Illustrated Leicester Chronicle 21/08/1943 records that:

Sergt. Ron. B. Smith of the RAF who, when stationed at Malta, was reported missing after an operational flight in January, is now officially reported missing, believed killed. He lived at 33, Bakewell Street, Coalville.
