He was the son of John Corbett, a general farm labourer, born 1863 in Adstock, Bucks., and his wife Maria Corbett (nee Wise), born 1863 in Chetwode, Bucks. Bernard was born in 1892 in Stanton by Dale, Derbys., his siblings were, Dora E., born 1887 and Annie, born 1889, the latter two siblings were both born in Oxfordshire, George H., born 1890 in Foscote, Bucks., Arthur A., born 1896, Frederick, born 1899 and Archibald, born 1900, the latter three siblings were all born in Kirby Bellars, Leics., in March 1901 the family home was at Kirby Street, Kirby Bellars, Leics. In April 1911 Bernard was employed as a farm wagoner and was residing in the family home at Church Langton, Market Harborough, Leics., together with his father, now a shepherd, his mother and siblings, Arthur, a farm labourer, Frederick, a farm labourer, Archibald, a schoolboy, Lewis, a schoolboy, born 1902 in Kirby Bellars, Leics., and Gladys, a schoolgirl, born 1904 in Nuneaton, Warwks.
