He was the son of Daniel Callaghan a shoe trade laster, born 1880 in Stafford and his wife Ellen a shoe trade fitter, born 1877 in Leicester. Albert George was born in 1900 in Leicester, in March 1901 the family home was at 1, Charnwood Cottages, Farnham Street, Leicester. In April 1911 Albert was a scholar and was residing in the family home at 35, Mornington Street, Leicester, together with his parents and siblings, Harry, born 1905 and Joseph A., born 1909, both his siblings were born in Leicester.
