He was the son of George Carpendale an agricultural labourer, born 1843 in Whissendine, Rutland and his wife Elizabeth, born 1853 in Somerby, Leics. George was born in 1882 in Belgrave, Leicester. In March 1901 George was serving as a Driver in the Army Service Corps., and was stationed at The Army Service Corps. Barracks, New Road, Woolwich, Kent. George was the husband of Mary Carpendale (nee Stephens). George was lost at sea and presumed drowned.
