He was the son of Richard Copas, a boiler maker, born 1855 in Manchester, Lancs., and his wife Clementina Copas (nee Smedowick), born 1858 in St. Helen’s, Lancs. Harold Copas, was born in 1893 in Southport, Lancs., his siblings were, George F., an apprentice boiler maker, born 1886, Gertrude, a shoe trade fitter, born 1888 and Herbert S., born 1892, all his siblings were born in Southport, Lancs., in March 1901 the family home was at 21, Constance Road, Leicester. In March 1901 Harold was employed as a shop assistant and was residing in the family home at 19, Constance Road, Leicester together with his mother and sister, Gertrude.
