He was the son of George Banks a Shoe Rivetter, born 1870 in Stone Staffordshire and his wife Florence, a Cigar Maker, born 1872 in Leicester. Horace Alfred was born in 1893 in Leicester, his siblings were Eva Elizabeth, born 1895, George Walter, born1897, Florence Annie, born 1901, Hilda, born 1903, Ida, born 1905, Edna born 1908 and Frances May, born 1910, all his siblings were born in Leicester. In March 1901 the family home was at 192, Curzon Street, Leicester, this being situated within the Ecclesiastical Parish of St. Matthew. In April 1911 the family home was at 42, Meynell Road, Leicester. His brother George Walter also died.
