Notice of Death from Leicester Daily Mercury, 31/07/1917:
BENNETT - Killed, while on fatigue duty, July 21st, Private Sidney Bennett, signaller, Coldstream Guards, aged 21 years, the dearly loved and youngest son of Mr and Mrs J Bennett, 30, Highcross-street, Leicester. "Dearly loved by all."

He was the son of John Bennett a Retail Fruiterer, born 1857 in Burbage, Leics., and his wife Eliza, born 1854 in Hinckley, Leics. Sidney was born in 1896 in Leicester, his siblings were Gertrude, born 1880 in Hinckley, Leics., Evelyn, born 1892 and James, born 1895, the latter two siblings were both born in Leicester, in March 1901 the family home was at 30, Highcross Street, Leicester, in the Ecclesiastical Parish of St. Martin. In April 1911 Sidney was employed as a Shop Assistant and was residing in the family home at 30, Highcross Street, Leicester together with his parents and siblings, Gertrude, Evelyn and James.
