After service in France and Belgium he died in the 5th Northern Hospital, Leicester, on 16th November 1918 as a result of being gassed.
Leicester Daily Mercury 19/11/1918:
"LOCKTON - In loving memory of Gunner Joseph Lockton, R.G.A., died of pneumonia Nov. 16th, the dearly beloved husband of Alice Charlotte Lockton, 44, Fairfield-street. Funeral service Clarendon Baptist Chapel, 11.20 am, Thursday Nov. 21st."
He is buried in Unconsecrated Plot S. 1992 with his brother John, who died a short time before on 01/11/1918.
