He was the son of Lewis Bull a farmer and brick merchant, born 1821 in Bungay, Suffolk and his wife Frances M., born 1850 in Witham, Lincs. Arthur Joseph was born in 1885 in Bungay, Suffolk, his siblings were, Lewis W., born 1883 in Bungay, Suffolk and Frances E., born 1888 in Wenhaston, Suffolk, in April 1891 the family home was at Flixton Road, Bungay, Suffolk. In March 1901 Arthur was employed as an articled clerk auctioneer and was residing in the family home at Florence House, Pakefield, Carlton Colville, Suffolk, together with his widowed mother and siblings, Frances and Mary B., born 1893 in Bungay, Suffolk. His enlistment records show that he gave his mother Mrs F. M. Bull of London Road, South Lowestoft, Suffolk, England as his next of kin, and stated that he was unmarried. His enlistment address is given as Runbeth Street, Blenheim, New Zealand He embarked from Lyttelton, New Zealand on the 16th October 1914 aboard either the Tahiti HMNZ 4 or the Athenic HMNZT 11 bound for Suez, Egypt. He was shown to have lost his life between the 6th and 7th August 1915. On the 31st January 1920 the Wyggeston Grammar School for Boys in Leicester published a Roll of Honour, Arthur was recorded as having been a pupil at the school in 1899.
