He was the son of Joseph Pollitt Cooper a draper’s traveller, born 1856 in Manchester, Lancs., and his wife, Sarah Cooper (nee Jackson), born 1857 in Manchester, Lancs. James Alfred was born in 1893 in Leicester, his siblings were, Joseph H., an accountant’s clerk, born 1884, Francis, a draper’s apprentice, born 1885, Walter Jackson, born 1889 and Thomas, born 1887, all his siblings were born in Manchester, Lancs., in March 1901 the family home was at 28, Highfield Street, Leicester. In April 1911 James was employed as an articled clerk and was residing in the family home at 12, St. James Road, Leicester, together with his father, now a commercial traveller, his mother, and brother Walter. James was accidentally killed. On the 31st January 1920 the Wyggeston Grammar School for Boys published a Roll of Honour of former pupils, James is recorded as having attended the school between the years 1902 and 1909.
