ContributeSource: Michael Doyle Their Name Liveth For Evermore: The Great War Roll of Honour for Leicestershire and Rutland. He was the eldest son of John Herbert and Annie Maria Inglesant. His younger brother Thomas George also fell. On the 31st January 1920 the Wyggeston Grammar School for Boys in Leicester published a Roll of Honour in which John is shown to have been a pupil at the school between the years 1898 and 1905. The War Diary entry for the 21st to the 26th September 1916 records. In BDE reserve, time spent in training and working parties -?-. Battn Bombers, Signallers, Scouts and Snipers all underwent special training. The Coys were under training in Guard duties, Bayonet fighting, Minimal Drill, special attention being paid to Bayonet fighting and Bombing.
