He was the son of Archibald and Annie Louisa Gorrie, and the husband of Gladys Sybil Gorrie. On the 31st January 1920 the Wyggeston Grammar School for Boys in Leicester published a Roll of Honour of former pupils, this records that Archibald attended the school between the years 1892 and 1903. His enlistment documents record that he gave his trade or calling as Schoolmaster, and his next of kin as his wife, Gladys Sybil Gorrie of South Road, Brighton Beach, Victoria, Australia. He stated that he had been a Lieutenant with the Senior Cadets for the last 15 months. He confirmed that he had been rejected as unfit for military service on the grounds of varicocele. Information taken from his medical examination shows that he was 6 foot in height, weighed 170 pounds and had a chest measurement of 39 inches. His complexion was described as fresh with hazel eyes and brown hair. It was noted that he had a left sided varicocele, and a mole on his right cheek. He gave his religion as Anglican. His record of service records the following, 16th July 1917 embarked Sydney, New South Wales, Australia aboard HMAT “A16” Port Melbourne. 16th September 1917 disembarked Liverpool, England. 23rd September joined 9th Training Battalion. 30th December 1917 appointed acting Corporal. 6th January 1918 attended School of Instruction at Kandahar Barracks, Tidworth. 9th February 1918 returned from School of Instruction to Fovant. 2nd March 1918 reverts to rank of Private and prepares to embark overseas. 4th March 1918 proceeded from Fovant via Southampton oveseas to France. 10th March 1918 joined A.I.B.D. at Rouelles, France. 11th March 1918 proceeded to the front. 16th March 1918 taken on the strength of the 33rd Battalion Australian Infantry in the field. 30th March 1918 wounded in action, admitted with a gun shot wound to the scalp to 9th Australian Field Ambulance. 31st March transferred to the 41st Casualty Clearing Station. 1st April 1918 admitted 2nd Convalescent Depot, Rouen. 9th April 1918 transferred to the 11th Convalescent Depot, Buchy. 30th April 1918 transferred to A. I. B. D. at Le Havre. 12th May 1918 marched out to rejoin the 33rd Battalion Australian Infantry. 16th May 1918 rejoined unit in the field. 22nd August 1918 killed in action at Bray-Sur-Somme, France.
