He was the son of Henry Gow, a Unitarian Minister, born 1861 in Cheltenham, Glos., and his wife Edith Gow (nee Beard, married in the 4th quarter of 1889 in the Toxteth Park, Lancashire district), born 1866 in Gee Cross, Cheshire. Charles Humphrey was born in the 2nd quarter of 1891 in Hampstead, Middx., he had one sibling, a sister Mary Elizabeth, born 1894 in Leicester, in March 1901 the family home was at 24, St. James Road, Leicester. In April 1911 Charles was a student and was residing in the family home at Whiteleaf, Princes Risborough, Tring, Bucks., together with his mother and sister, Mary, a schoolgirl. He later resided in the family home at 12, Glenlock Road, Hampstead, Middx. On the 31st January 1920 the Wyggeston Grammar School for Boys in Leicester published a Roll of Honour of former pupils, this records that Charles attended the school between the years 1900 and 1902. Charles’ service record shows that he was a Temporary Surgeon with the Naval Division. 31/12/14. 2nd R.N.B. Orders. Surgeon for duty, Ambulance, Blandford, 1/1/15. Detached from Anson Bn. to Stavros for duty while serving with the MEF. To be MO “Anson” Bn. from 23/11/15. Posted to Anson Bn., Gallipoli, 25/11/15. Blandford, Dorset on sick leave 6/10/15 – 12/10/15. Embarked HMT Gascon, Mudros, 14/5/16. Disembarked Marseille, 19/5/16. Killed in action whilst serving with the Anson Bn. in France, 13/11/16.
