He was the son of Isaac and Hannah Jane Raynor of Woodhouse Eaves, Leics. His enlistment documents record that he gave his father, I. J. Raynor of Medicine Hat, Alberta, Canada as his next of kin. He gave his trade or calling as Clerk and stated that he was unmarried. He stated that he had previously served for 9 years and 10 days in the Leicestershire Regiment. Information taken from his medical examination shows that he was 5 foot 6 ½ inches in height and had a chest measurement of 33 to 36 inches. His complexion was described as medium with brown eyes and brown hair. It was noted that he had an appendicitis scar. He gave his religion as Church of England.
