Millennium project to create a temporary memorial in the form of a Field of Remembrance in which 326 white crosses, each bearing a name from the main memorials were laid out in two plots, in war cemetery style. Between the WW1 plot with its 254 crosses and that for WW2 with 72 crosses, there was a large model of the London cenotaph, flanked by memorials relating to their adjacen plot. This layout was maintained during Remembrance Week and has been repeated each year since its introduction in November 2000. It provides an evocative setting for the daily sunset ceremony performed each evening.
