ContributeTall Clipsham stone cross with canopy and crucifixion of Jesus on front face, surmounting octagonal shaft. Cross base on three tiered hexagonal steps. Original Jesus now held within Church; it was modelled on one in the Madeliene Church in Paris. Unveiled Wednesday 4th October 1922 by Viscount Campden, heir of Lord Gainsborough (who stood in for Sir Edward Bellingham, Lady Gainsborough's brother); dedicated by the Bishop of Nottingham, the Right Rev Thomas Dunn. A contemporary newspaper article framed in the local church discusses its unveiling.
