LIEUT COMMANDER BEAUCHAMP ST JOHN BELLAIRS RN
SON OF LIEUT GENERAL SIR WILLIAM BELLAIRS, KCMG, CB
AND GRANDSON OF
SIR WILLIAM BELLAIRS OF HULBARTON NORFORK.
HE DIED IN SELF-SACRIFICING DEVOTION TO DUTY
WHEN COMMANDING HMS JACKDAW,
ON THE NIGER RIVER 22ND MAY 1898 IN HIS 30TH YEAR,
SERVED ALSO WITH DISTINCTION
IN THE GAMBIA EXPEDITION 1891-2 (MEDLA AND CLASP)
AND ON THE EAST COAST OF AFRICA
