John Waldron was killed in a accident, in a working party at a chalk pit near the village of Duisans in sweltering heat excavating chalk when the heavens opened around 3pm so John and two comrades downed tools and took shelter under a chalk outcrop, suddenly a loud crashing noise alerted the other soldiers nearby who ran quickly only to discover tat the overang had crashed down on the 3 men, they dug frantically to free the men, two were still breathing but Waldrons neck was broken and the captain deduced that he must have died instantly.
John joined in 1914 claiming to be 34 years old, on his death he was no less than 50 years old.
