ContributePortland stone square pillar on three stepped base with oblique piers at each corner bearing carvings of names of battles in relief on scrolls, plain frieze and projecting corner at head and topped by squared pillar with cornice and circular finial with terminal bronze flame. Bronze plaque on front face bears WW1 and WW2 names and further added plaque bears one WW2 name. Black marble tablet with gold inscription recently added at base to commemorate sponsors. Originally erected without names, which were added by August 1926. Charley and Oaks-in-Charnwood names added as Mr J Harriman JP CC was Chairman of the committee and represented them for the County Council. Unveiled by Duke of Rutland on Saturday 2nd February 1918; dedicated by Vicar the Rev HD Goe-Clark and Rev AH Collard (Charnwood Road Baptist Chapel). Previously in Market Place; moved in 1953 and reconsecrated 5 Nov 1953 (it took 3 years of gala's etc to raise the 3000 pounds needed). It was then floodlit until 11 November.
