He was the son of Sarah Ann, and the late Charles Jordan of 10, Queen Street, Shepshed, Leics. His enlistment documents record that he gave his father, Charles Jordan of 14, Charles Street East, Toronto, Canada as his next of kin, and his trade or calling as Clerk, he was unmarried. Information taken from his medical examination shows that he was 5 foot 5 ¾ inches in height and had a chest measurement of 33 to 36 inches. His complexion was described as fair with brown eyes and light brown hair. He gave his religion as Church of England. A newspaper report in the Toronto Starr of the 5th May 1917 gave the following story. “WAS ONLY SON, AGED 20”. Late Lance-Corporal Jordan Admired His Comrades-In-Arms. “He was our only son and the best boy that ever lived on earth.” Said Charles Jordan, 14 Charles Street West, father of Lance-Corporal C.A. Jordan, of the 20th Battalion, reported killed in action on April 9th. “And only 20 years of age.” Added his mother between sobs. In a letter just received by his parents, written a week before his death, Lance-Corporal Jordan wrote: Nobody will be more pleased than myself to get back home, but I can honestly say I never repented coming out here. When one sees the way men bear hardships without a grouch it makes one feel pleased to have the privilege of associating with these fellows.” Lance-Corporal Jordan enlisted with the Sportsmen’s Institution, and was transferred to the 20th Battallion. He crossed from England to France on January 12th. He was of schoalarly attainments, having won a scholarship at the famous Hinckley Grammar School, Hinckley, England. With his parents he came to Canada five years ago. Before enlisting he was a Bookkeeper with Henry Wright, Plumber, Gerrard Street.
