ContributeTall plain latin cross on two step base; Base consists of a square lower step & octagonal upper step, surmounted by a tall square sectioned tapering chamfer-edged, column & Latin cross. Shield of St. George in relief, on front face of column. Raised WW1 names on metal plaques attached to front three upper step risers. Raised WW2 names on nowy-headed metal plaque attached to foot of column. The medieval and Victorian Holy Rood Church was demolished in 1968, due to structural damage caused by subsidence; this was replaced by a modern CLASP pre-fabricated concrete building, which has also been demolished. The war memorial stands close to the site of the medieval church, in a part of the churchyard which is now closed.
