The only Municipal Grand Carillon in Britain. Tall bell tower of local brick and portland stone. Contains 47 bells cast by Taylor's Bell Foundry in Loughborough costing 7000 pounds with individual inscriptions. Played using clavier (with keyboard). Tower cost 11594 pounds 2s. 6d. Museum within. Copper covered balcony at top. Several metal plaques around rusticated stone base at bottom of tower. Foundation stone laid January 22nd 1922 by General Lord Howe GCB.Unveiled Sunday 22nd July 1923 by Field Marshal Sir William Robertson Bart GCB KCVO DSO, dedicated by Rt Rev Frank Theodore Woods DD Bishop of Peterborough.
