He was the son of Edwin and Fanny Adcock. In 1911 the family home was at 62, Mornington Street, Leicester, present were his father Edwin a Ladies Hose Knitter, born in 1866 in Syston, Leicestershire and his mother Fanny, born in 1868 in Rearsby, Leicestershire. Alfred was a Schoolboy and was born in 1900 in Leicester.
